AusRehab, a Proud Supporter of OzHarvest

Find out how we are using our work health and safety expertise to support the daily operations of OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.

OzHarvest hardly requires any introduction. Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, the team works tirelessly across the country to fight food waste, feed people in need and drive large-scale, societal change.

Here at AusRehab, we’re thrilled to be a proud supporter of OzHarvest. We found a unique way to contribute to their incredible mission by leveraging our expertise in work health and safety to support their dedicated team of volunteers and drivers.

Delivering Food Rescue Operations Safety Training

Understanding that safety is paramount in food rescue operations, we produced a comprehensive series of branded training videos, designed specially for OzHarvest’s in-house training program.

Every day, OzHarvest drivers rescue quality surplus food from commercial businesses and deliver it fresh and free of charge to charities across Australia. This creates a real difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and families.

These educational resources focus on three crucial aspects of daily operations:

  • Safe Vehicle Entry and Exit Techniques: Ensuring drivers know how to safely access and exit OzHarvest’s iconic yellow vans, preventing potential injuries and promoting long-term physical wellbeing.
  • Ergonomic Loading and Unloading: Demonstrating proper techniques for handling food donations, protecting drivers, volunteers, and the precious cargo they transport to those in need.
  • Essential Stretch Breaks for Drivers and Volunteers: Providing practical tips for maintaining physical health during long hours of food rescue and delivery, which helps volunteers stay comfortable and injury-free while serving their community.

Supporting OzHarvest's Cause

Our training materials were produced with the expert guidance of Senior Rehabilitation Consultant, Ken Escovidal. Nearly 300 staff and over 3000 volunteers from OzHarvest will now have the resources and information to protect themselves while moving thousands of kilograms of food daily.

Through this support, we’re not just contributing to OzHarvest’s immediate operations; we’re also investing in the long-term sustainability of their mission. With staff and volunteers properly trained in safety procedures, they can focus on what matters most: helping OzHarvest deliver more meals to Australians in need and reducing food waste.

This was also a fantastic opportunity for AusRehab to showcase our commitment to workplace safety and employee wellbeing. Together, we can make a difference in creating a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for all Australians.

Secure Your Company's Future with AusRehab

Freight transport is a cornerstone of the Australian economy. In 2022-23, NSW’s estimated road freight was a record-breaking 84 billion tonne‑kilometres. If every operator were to injure themselves, businesses would lose untold amounts of revenue, workers would suffer tremendously, and the national economy would collapse.

That’s why we offer a comprehensive range of corporate services, targeted at employers looking to invest in the long-term wellbeing of their workers. Our work health and safety expertise enables us to deliver programs tailored uniquely to your company’s needs.
